Patrick Paulus, CPA – Owner

Pat is a founding partner with Capitol Tax & Accounting Group. He was with a large regional accounting firm prior to founding Capitol Tax and Accounting Group. He has provided assurance, accounting, consulting, and tax services for retail, construction, service, and real estate industries. Pat also works with individuals on tax issues specific to their needs, including pass-through business income, tax planning, compliance, consulting, and tax return preparation. Pat is a certified public accountant and holds A Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance from Valparaiso University. He and his wife Dana live in Monona, WI with their children Kennedy and Eddie.


SARA MUCHKA, CPA – SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Prior to joining Capitol Tax & Accounting Group in 2014, Sara worked for a local public accounting firm where she specialized in assurance, accounting services, and tax compliance for service industries and non-profit organizations. Her focus is working with closely held and family businesses on tax and compliance issues as well as individual tax issues. She is a certified public accountant and holds A Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.  Sara and her husband Peter live in Lake Mills, Wisconsin with their two daughters Morgan and Molly and their dog Maeve.


Karen Ganser – Accountant

Karen Ganser has over thirty years accounting experience with her focus on customer support. Karen is a Quickbooks Pro Advisor and is knowledgeable in bookkeeping, payroll, tax and other various small business needs. Karen holds an Associate Degree in Accounting from Chippewa Valley Technical College. Karen and her husband Marty have two adult daughters and live outside Sauk City, Wisconsin with their dog, Cosmo. In her spare time, Karen enjoys reading, hiking and home renovations.


Amy BLAWusch – Office MANAGER


 Amy has more than five years’ experience in customer service and administrative roles. Amy has grown up in the greater Madison, WI area and holds an Associates Degree in Business and Meeting and Event Management. She enjoys hiking, fishing and repurposing things.



Janel Sofka – Bookkeeper


Janel has over eight years of experience in Bookkeeping and using both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. Janel grew up and spent most of her youth in Southern California and has been traveling the country for the last ten years; living in Boston, Ma; Burlington, VT; Gainesville, FL; and now calls Madison, WI home. Janel holds an Associate’s Degree in Business and Accounting. She loves outdoor activities in the summer like, walking her dog, kayaking, and paddle boarding.



Amanda Babic – Accountant


Amanda has over five years of accounting experience and specializes in small business bookkeeping. She also has a unique array of varying industry knowledge which includes over ten years in the automotive industry as well as three years in the manufacturing industry. She has her associate degree in accounting and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree through UW Green Bay. Amanda hails from Kenosha with her two children. She also has a dog named Rascal and a cat named Mazikeen. Amanda is a born and raised Wisconsinite who lives for bowling, fishing, and spending any free time on the water.



Allan Schmid, CPA


Allan Schmid is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UW Whitewater. He has been in public accounting for approximately 30 years offering accounting, consulting and tax services for individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, and non-profits.  Allan also has vast experience with QuickBooks. Allan and his two children have lived in Waunakee, WI for eight years. Allan spends his free time, if any, fishing, camping and watching his son’s football games, and both children’s hockey games.



Sari Anderson – OPERATIONS Manager


Sari has more than 10 years’ experience in logistics and customer service, ranging from a Fortune 500 company to local, small businesses in Madison, WI. After graduating from Winona State University with a B.A. in Communication Studies, Sari spent six years at the Walt Disney Company in Orlando, FL. working in hospitality operations. She then moved home to Wisconsin and specialized in merchandising administration before joining the team at Capitol Tax & Accounting Group. Sari enjoys reading, thrift store shopping, biking, and cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers.  She lives in Madison with her goldendoodle, Benny.


Christie Morel – Accountant


Christie has more than 20 years' experience in the accounting field working with individuals, businesses, and non-profits. Knowledgeable in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. Born and raised in Wisconsin. I spend my free time watching my four children participate in sports. I have two daughters, whom I am very proud of, playing at the collegiate level for basketball. I also enjoy taking my goldendoodle Bentley to the dog park and on long walks through nature trails. I have a love for art and am currently exploring my artistic side with an art form class.

James Proulx, EA

Before becoming part of the team at Capitol Tax & Accounting Group, Jim owned an accounting business in Michigan for 28 years. He attended Delta College and obtained his Enrolled Agent status in 2000. His business specialized in personal and business income taxes. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife, Sandy, spending time with  family and working on genealogy.


Heather Richter, CPA


Heather comes to us with more than 15 years of experience in accounting, payroll, and tax services for both individuals and businesses. She is CPA licensed in the state of WI and has a Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University in Accounting & Finance. She lives in Black Earth, WI with her husband Jason and four kids Kylee, Morgan, Austin, and Stella who fill all of her spare time.
